Room of the Year Project: Private Residence This Asian-inspired poolhouse is both a serene retreat and a contrast to the rustic main house nearby. It is the essence of simplicity: a glass box with sliding doors that open to the pool, pool deck and landscape surrounding it. A freestanding, elliptical bath/shower pod, clad in Douglas fir veneer, is the centerpiece of the structure. The door to the pod follows the curve, almost disappearing into the surface. Designed for year-round use, the poolhouse is equipped with a freestanding kitchen unit, custom upholstered furniture and wiring for TV, Internet and telephone.
