Architecture goes to the dogs

May 28, 2013

The late Roger Caras, president emeritus of the ASPCA, once said, “Dogs are not our whole lives, but they make our lives whole.” No dog lover would disagree, and now architects are chiming in with a new art exhibit called Architecture for Dogs.

Architects and designers from around the world were each paired with a dog breed to create a house that evokes the breed’s distinctive qualities. The results are functional, whimsical expressions of the joyful relationship between canines and humans. If you’re going to be in Long Beach, Calif., between June 14 and September 29, you can see the doghouses at the Long Beach Museum of Art.

I also encourage you to check out the web site, where you can download blueprints for each doghouse in the series and upload photos of your own creations. It’s sure to bring a smile to your face.
