The glass on three sides of the soaking tub doesn't rob the master bathroom of its privacy from the outdoors because the translucent, etched panels on the lower portion of the windows admit light but not views. While its controls are on the deck, the tub is filled by water raining down from a ceiling-mounted shower head.

Across from the bath, wood and glass cabinetry at opposite ends anchors the glass vanity, which rests on custom-fabricated metal legs. Finish materials were selected to add quiet character to this rest and relaxation space. Patterned wall tiles add subtle dimension while maintaining the monochromatic design theme. "And the color of the mosaic tiles really captures the light and reflects it," Mary Schumacher Becker says.

Mom and Dad can treat themselves to a pampering spa experience without leaving home thanks to this master bath in an 11,092-square-foot custom residence in Canton, Ohio, designed for a professional couple with young children.
"The clean lines and overall monochromatic look of the room were selected to promote a spalike ambience that the homeowners really wanted," says Mary Schumacher Becker, vice president of merchandising for builder Schumacher Homes.
The traditional Eastern Seaboard style of the home, constructed on a heavily wooded infill site in an established neighborhood of luxury homes, continues into the bath. Iridescent mosaic tile, art glass windows above the tub and painted wood cabinetry with the appearance of fine furniture give the retreat a sense of age without making it appear old.
Becker calls the extensive use of glass the key design element of this space. "This is a part of the country where we don't necessarily get a lot of sunshine," she says, "and we want to capitalize on whatever natural light is available."
The bath features a focal-point soaking tub and an oversize shower with multiple shower heads and floor-to-ceiling glass doors. A wall-mounted, flat-screen television can be viewed from various areas within the room.
This master retreat also includes customized walk-in closets - his finished in cherry, hers in maple - and an adjoining morning kitchen with a breakfast bar and refrigerator.
