Earth, Wind, and Fire (Water and Hail, Too)
Early thoughts from IBS this week centered on the many ways resilience is evolving. Freddie Mac now allows appraisals to factor in energy efficiency and disaster mitigation, including ADUs and outbuildings, meaning resilience and energy features are now formally being looked at as value drivers.
NGBS Green was on hand to chat up their Green+ add-on certifications covering wind, water, fire, and earth hazard mitigations. And IBHS offered some data points on how these mitigations prove out, including this one: 90% of homes whose garage doors survive a storm avoid roof damage (wind-rated garage doors are key).
The big question I have: will the higher appraisals for high performing, resilient homes prompt the laggards to follow suit?
