Homes of All Color
Homes of Color, a new magazine about African-American living and style, is looking to highlight and showcase diversity within the shelter industry.
The bimonthly magazine, which chiefly features upscale and move-up homes, debuted in November. Owner and publisher Corriece Gwynn designed the magazine to have a twofold mission. On one hand, it's a resource for learning about black architects, builders and others in the industry. On the other, consumers can see themselves and their style reflected in a medium that often doesn't acknowledge their existence - for Gwynn, it's a sign to the world that "Yes, we do exist!"
Gwynn says many in the industry don't have black buyers, or their dollars, on the radar screen and therefore aren't providing crucial, lucrative services. Beyond continuing with her original mission, she plans to include homes of other ethnic and racial groups in the magazine to increase awareness overall.
"This is business 101 - it's not rocket science," Gwynn says. "If you're committed to growing your business, you have to look at other client bases, and African-Americans have disposable income and savvy."
