Marcel Sedletzky: Architect and Teacher, a new book from Wild Coast Press, examines the homes of a man who designed very distinct, uniquely modernist yet ultimately California homes from the late 1950s until the mid-1980s.

The book chronicles 18 Sedletzky-designed homes primarily along the central California coast. In addition to detailing the home layouts and design concepts, author Bill Staggs interviewed Sedletzky's clients, students and family for information on the man and his approach to home design.

Staggs says the architect "wanted his clients to see a more fully realized vision for a house to avoid the potential for confusion that might be brought on by too many options, too many choices."

The 208-page book has 118 color photographs, 40 black-and-white pictures and 65 drawings. It's priced at $50 for hardcover and $35 for softcover and can be ordered by calling book dealer Hennessey + Ingalls at 310/458-9074.
