Sophisticated yet whimsical, the wrought-iron staircase marks the transition from business to pleasure as it connects the main-floor study with the private game loft. Custom maple cabinetry adds to the warm ambience of the space. Within the built-in bookcases, glass shelves featuring a maple ogee perimeter edge allow the light from recessed fixtures to shine through and accent the books and art pieces.

Elegantly appointed yet warm and inviting, the study in this 6,660-square-foot estate residence is no mere showpiece. It's intended to serve as a personal retreat or working office, says Joe Pease, assistant vice president for builder Toll Brothers Inc. This home serves as a builder's model in Mizner Country Club, Toll's golf course community in Delray Beach, Fla.
Although it's part of the master wing on the main floor, the study does not connect directly to the master suite, enhancing its privacy and its functionality for business or pleasure.
In a surprise twist, the sanctuary offers a private, upper-level game room with a full-size billiards table and a well-equipped wet bar.
A circular, wrought-iron staircase leads to the loft-style recreation space. Designed by Interiors by Steven G., the staircase railing was custom-crafted by Toll using a scrolled motif inspired by the home’s Mediterranean architectural theme. The staircase features the same delicate filigree pattern of curves used for the railing in the two-story stair tower adjacent to the formal entry foyer outside the study.
"We brought many of the same design elements and warm tones used throughout the home into this room and then turned it up a notch by using lots of wood to increase the intimacy of the space," says Judith Levithan, the interior designer. Upscale touches include custom maple cabinetry with a cherry stain, grass cloth wallpaper and bamboo floors.
