Offering a view of Las Vegas' lights, the oversize window above the spa tub in the master bath reflects the dramatic character of the home's design. Window coverings, which might obstruct the view, are unnecessary because of the home's mountainside setting, designer Randall Crim says. One of the bath's most delightful features is a waterfall shower head in the ceiling above the tub.
"Every room in a home carries a different emotional attachment with it," Crim says, "and none makes you fall in love with a house faster than the kitchen." This kitchen features the ultimate in luxury amenities and finishes, including stainless steel appliances, cast-iron lighting fixtures and granite countertops with a bullnose finish.
The circular, elevated living area serves as the main floor's focal point. A pony wall surrounding the space defines its function without restricting views of the Las Vegas Strip and Valley. Capped by a copper trough, the travertine tile half-wall serves as the backdrop for an indoor waterfall. A whole-house water-treatment system filters and recirculates the water continuously. Travertine is used for the flooring throughout the main level and stairs.

Signature Custom Homes originally intended to showcase this 6,880-square foot, spec-built home, with its indoor water features, sleek, contemporary design and million-dollar view of Las Vegas' lights, as a swinging bachelor's pad. But to avoid limiting the Henderson, Nev., home's marketability, the builder enlisted two interior design firms to soften its finishes and demonstrate its suitability for empty-nester and upscale executive families as well.

"While it was a really cool house, its market was extremely limited," interior designer Randall Crim says. "Our goal was to make the living space more user-friendly. When it comes to creating a successful model home, emotion plays a huge role in capturing the attention of a prospective buyer, so you want to create a home that people walk in and love right off the bat."

Crim collaborated with Marnie Meyers to transform what he calls the "extreme severity" of the original design into an exciting-looking home that also lives comfortably. Crim replaced the previously selected dark palette of slate for the flooring and accent walls with warm-toned travertine, added safety railings around the home's water walls, created a child's room and demonstrated the possibilities of using the detached casita as in-law or nanny's quarters.
