"Even though we wanted to create a bath that was really different, we never lost sight of the fact that it must be functional, too."
— Jed Adams, Pitt Building Co.

This spec-built model home in Round Rock, Texas, features a contemporary design, giving the builder a signature product in a competitive custom market within a larger, master-planned community. The home’s style is a deliberate departure from the traditional look that characterizes the builder’s portfolio. “We wanted to accentuate the fact that we are a custom builder and can design and build anything the client wants,” says Jed Adams, operations manager for Pitt Building Co. “The creation of living space that really brings the outdoors inside was an important design element for this home.” The master bath, with its central glass block shower, skylight and pair of windows, establishes an open, naturally bright retreat consistent with the rest of the living space.

Consider a Different Approach

  • Semicircular glass block wall transforms the double-width shower into the room’s focal point.
  •

  • Shower includes a single head that simulates a cascade of rainwater, plus dual body sprays.
  •

  • Recessed into the foundation of the house, the shower base can be used as a soaking tub and includes a separate fill faucet and built-in seats.
  •

  • A layer of fiberglass between the concrete and tumbled tile finish waterproofs the base of the shower/tub.
  •

  • Wide palette of materials reflects those used throughout the home, including glass block; stainless steel, checkerboard-design sinks; a blend of tumbled slate tiles in 1-inch and 13-inch squares for floors, shower surround and countertops; satin nickel fixtures; and custom white oak cabinetry.
  •

  • His-and-her vanities feature 6-inch toe kicks to create an appearance like furniture; the his vanity height is designed for standup use; her vanity includes knee space for a sit-down makeup area.
  •

  • Ten-foot tray ceiling culminates in a central skylight; two fixed-glass windows along the outer wall, set at an 8-foot height, provide natural illumination with no loss of privacy.
  •

  • Round, brushed nickel light fixtures echo the curved lines of the shower.
