Design trends come and go, but the biggest trends in tile this year are made to last. At Coverings 2025—the largest ceramic tile and natural stone event in North America—Custom Builder had the opportunity to scour the showroom floor for the latest innovations from the global tile industry.
What we discovered was an overarching theme of timeless design. Rather than following fleeting trends, many of the top tile trends at this year’s show demonstrate built-to-last craftsmanship and durability.
“We create a product that often outlasts the buildings that are designed, so we try to take a mid-range [approach] where we’re creating all the tones that harmonize with everything that’s going to happen over the next few decades,” says Ryan Fasan, technical consultant for Tile of Spain.
Here’s what we found:
1. Warm-Toned Neutrals
The cool grey and white palette found throughout the 2010s is giving way to warm, earthy tones. From deep terracottas to sandy beiges, warm neutral tile seems to be here to stay. These hues provide an organic feel that complements a variety of design styles, whether it's contemporary, traditional, or something in between.
This trend can be seen in Daltile’s Artefino Vintage collection. While the line offers a range of moody, dramatic tones, the Jasper finish adds a deep, warm terracotta color to any space.
2. Lines & Fluting
Lines and fluted tile add dimension and texture to any space, making it one of the standout trends observed at this year’s show.
One example is seen in Cifre Ceramica’s Rain collection, which provides a subtle, lined texture. The small-format tile can be applied in either a horizontal or vertical layout, making it versatile for most design directions.
3. Human-Centered Design
As technology continues to evolve, one thing remains clear: Homeowners are seeking spaces that feel more human. From textured tiles that appear to be individually laid to more rustic tile shapes, trends are shifting toward handcrafted designs.
Anthology’s Moroccan Habitat collection of tiles exemplifies this trend, with slight imperfections on each tile to appear both textured and human-made.
4. Terrazzo
What was once old is stylish again. Terrazzo tile is being reimagined in larger tile formats and updated colorways. This versatile, speckled style brings a playful yet refined look to both floors and walls.
Ceasar Ceramics' Civic collection embodies this reimagined trend with terrazzo-inspired surfaces that feel both nostalgic and modern.
5. Realistic Stone Textures
The look of stone is timeless, and modern technology is making it more accessible than ever. Porcelain stoneware now replicates the look of natural stone, offering greater longevity in both design and performance.
The Infinito 2.0 collection, which is part of Ceramica Fondovalle’s MyTop range of tiles, are large format designs that offer an ultra-realistic marble effect. Paired with the company’s All-Light Polished surface, the tile has a subtle backlighting effect for added visual depth.
Danielle McWilliams, executive vice president of Novità Communications and marketing representative for Ceramics of Italy says, “There is a unified approach to quiet luxury, a movement that prioritizes quality craftsmanship, materials, and sustainability.”
