Design-Forward American Made: Six Standout Products to Know
This Independence Day, we’re putting a spotlight on American craftsmanship. Domestic sourcing isn't just patriotic, it can be practical. It can ease supply chain headaches, tighten build schedules, and maintain access to premium, customizable materials. From architectural drains out of Long Island to hand-cast hardware from Idaho, these made-in-America standouts are a timely reminder that local still matters.
O’FALLON, MO.: TRUE RESIDENTIAL
A division of third-generation owned True Manufacturing in St. Louis, True Residential works out of an O’Fallon, Mo., factory to produce full-size refrigerators, beverage centers, compact columns, and indoor-outdoor undercounter wine storage.
Shown here, a 24-inch undercounter freezer drawer, in matte white with brass pulls, features a stainless-steel interior. All products are available in a range of color and hardware finish combinations.
PORTLAND, ORE.: ANN SACKS MADE COLLECTION
Ann Sacks’ MADE collection is a portfolio of handcrafted tile produced at the company’s Portland, Ore. facility for nearly four decades. The latest addition, Arbor, is an earthenware collection with a raised-relief texture reminiscent of tree bark. Available in 3 inches by 6 inches, 6 inches by 6 inches, and Swiss Cross field tiles, and in the company’s earthenware matte and gloss finishes, the collection is suitable for interior walls, including showers and high-temperature areas such as behind the range.
LONG ISLAND, N.Y.: INFINITY DRAIN
Known for design-centric shower drains, Infinity Drain fabricates its products in Long Island, N.Y.. A standout option is the company's new Disco Rectangle, an elongated rectangle with curved edges inspired by mid-century modern design. The unique tile insert sits flush with the floor, and the design is available in 10 finishes to match other bathroom fixtures.
CHARLESTON, S.C.: THE URBAN ELECTRIC CO.
The Urban Electric Co. designs and crafts custom lighting in its century-old brick factory in Charleston, S.C. Every fixture is bench-made and hand-finished. The collection includes a range of made-to-order options—custom colors, shades, finishes, glass details, and mounting modifications—as well as quick-ship selections available in under six weeks. Shown here is the Albert Gate Hang in opal glass with blackened brass and found brass accents. Standard lead time: eight to 10 weeks. Offered in five standard finishes, with additional premium upgrades available.
LAS VEGAS: CONCRETTI DESIGNS
More than seven years after her first online sale, Concretti Designs founder Yifat Arbely (profiled here in a recent feature) has built a 50-person operation that's changing how builders and designers think about concrete. Highly pigmented and "perfectly imperfect," the brand's output began with a line of colorful sinks designed to bring an organic elegance to concrete. Since then, offerings have evolved to include tubs, outdoor fountains, planters and beyond. The company produces 500 to 1,000 units monthly from its Las Vegas facility, with its best selling San Francisco sink, here in blush, already a modern classic. “We don’t sell concrete—we sell style,” says Arbely.
HAILEY, IDAHO: ROCKY MOUNTAIN HARDWARE
Founded in 1994, Rocky Mountain Hardware handcrafts bronze hardware at three U.S. production facilities, including one of the few remaining metal foundries in the country. Based in Idaho, the family-owned company offers a range of door and cabinet hardware, lighting, plumbing fixtures, and bronze tile, each finished by hand in one of 12 patinas designed to age gracefully. Pieces are cast using 90% post-consumer recycled bronze. Shown here is Cirque, a new collection defined by curves and circular forms. Along with a "design your own" service for customizing door hardare, the company recently launched an express program with a curated selection of door, cabinet, and bath hardware that ships within 10 business days of order approval.
Together, these products reflect the regional craftsmanship that continues to define American design at the high end of the market. We invite you to suggest your own American-made sources for future publication.
