Founding their own interior design firm 40 years ago, Darlene and James Justice know firsthand the difficulty of finding unique, quality metal pieces that are also easy to order and specify. That frustration, they say, is what led them to create Fittings Metal Collection, a brand specializing in custom metal design solutions for the kitchen and bathroom.

The Justices began their foray into the custom home industry in 1986 with the founding of Architectural Justice, their Medina, Ohio-based interior design firm. Over the years, they came across the same problem: there were not a lot of options for metal design solutions that were easy to order, suitable for luxury, and customizable for just about any project.

They founded Fittings Metal Collection in 2018 to fill that gap. What began as an effort to make quality metalwork more accessible has grown into a full product line the founders describe as "jewelry for the kitchen or bathroom."

Metal as the Next Logical Step

Metal, the Justices say, was the next logical step. Their design firm Architectural Justice was already fabricating custom cabinetry and stone, and metal was a material they were using in projects anyway.

“Metal was just a natural thing for us,” says Darlene. Bringing it in-house allowed them to fully curate their own products for custom builds and remodels, while also acting as a resource for other designers.

Fittings Metal Collection began with simple shelving, but the line has grown into a full collection of metal-based products and accessories built with designers in mind.

This part was crucial for the Justices. After working in luxury design, they wanted to not only make it easy for designers, builders, and specifiers to order but to also make sure that their products could suit a wide range of spaces and be modular to meet different design needs.

Part of the solution was offering simple, timeless pieces built to industry-standard sizing, they say. The other solution was to work closely with other industry professionals from the jump. All designs are available and downloadable from their website, so designers can easily pop them into their preferred design platform and present clients with specific products and prices already in place.

"We just really speak their language," says James. "I feel like we work really well with installers and designers, and I think they appreciate knowing that they can come to us with an idea or a drawing and work with us on it."

A Brand Built For Designers

The current lineup spans a range of customizable shelving solutions, vanities, wine racks, island and cabinet accessories, and a range hood collection, among other pieces. Everything is customizable, designed to work together, and available in five finishes: Gold, Matte Black, Nickel, Gunmetal, and Urban Bronze.

This is on top of the brand’s cabinet shop and granite operation—all of which run out of their Medina, Ohio, campus. The facility includes an interior design showroom, offices, a 10,000-square-foot fabrication facility, and a 75,000-square-foot stone yard.

“We want designers and architects and specifiers to be able to look at the product and use their imagination and come up with different designs themselves and use [our products] however they want,” says Darlene.

What’s Next For the Brand?

Now, almost 10 years in, the brand continues to expand. Architectural Justice is adding another 25,000-square-foot production facility to their Ohio campus to take on growing demand for their Fittings Metal Collection brand.

But when it comes to new launches, Darlene and James say they aren’t focused on chasing the next passing trend but, instead, on creating timeless pieces that will propel their brand—and their team—into the next venture.

“I've seen a lot of trends come and go,” says James. “So, we would like to try and stay on top of it and just build a top quality product that we can always be proud of.”
