In one of the oldest of the old-money enclaves in the country, a new luxury development is turning heads and winning awards. The Legend Yacht & Beach Club, located on Long Island’s famed North Shore, recently won eight awards for excellence - including Community of the Year - from the Long Island Builders Institute.

Spectrum Skanska of Valhalla, N.Y. built the community, which features a private marina, indoor tennis court, private beach, shorefront swimming pool and a Boathouse Club. The 46-acre property was formerly the estate of one of the founders of MGM Studios.

The 47-home community also won awards for best luxury interior home, best luxury model, best luxury home design and several advertising and marketing awards.

Over 90% of the $1 million-plus to $2 million homes have been sold in less than one year, with buyers drawn to the seaside shingle homes reminiscent of 1920s Newport, Rhode Island.
