Indoor–outdoor living is not just a passing trend. It has become a staple in both remodels and custom home projects alike. Whether it’s a large sliding glass door that opens to the backyard or windows that bring natural light into the home, clients are increasingly seeking designs that strengthen their connection to the outdoors.

For one couple in Seattle’s Magnolia neighborhood, however, that connection wasn’t enough. Drawing inspiration from their Argentinian roots, they turned to Seattle-based  Dyna Builders and DeForest Architects to create a quincho, an indoor–outdoor pavilion designed for cooking and entertaining outdoors.

In this edition of The Rundown, we break down of the products that helped bring this 914-square-foot space to life.

Sliding Glass Doors That Allow for the Perfect Outdoor Connection

Essential to the indoor-outdoor lifestyle is a solid connection between both interior and exterior spaces. The project team opted for Sierra Pacific Windows’ Multi-Slide Plus door, which offers uninterrupted views and disappears into wall pockets when fully open.

The doors are customizable for a variety of size and space configurations. Each panel—up to 60-inches wide and 119 ½-inches tall—is constructed with heavy-duty extruded aluminum and rides on dual 2 ⅛-inch stainless steel precision-bearing rollers for a smoother glide.

Concrete Flooring Provides a Low-Maintenance Transition Between Interior and Exterior Spaces

Concrete flooring was selected for its durability and ability to easily transition between both indoor and outdoor areas. But plain concrete flooring didn’t suit the home’s sophisticated aesthetic. Instead, the design team opted for Davis Colors’ integral concrete pigment in pewter.

Davis Colors offers synthetic iron oxide pigments available in both standard shades and custom powder blends for a wide range of color options.

A Simple, Easy-to-Clean Backsplash

The cooking area of the quincho blends modern functionality with a classic neutral color palette, functional storage, and a simple black ceramic tile backsplash. The tile is part of Daltile’s Color Wheel Classic Collection.

The collection features 12 semi-gloss and matte tile options in four sizes, ranging from 3 inches by 6 inches to 6 inches by 6 inches.

An Integrated Cooktop Designed for Hosting

A quality cooktop is important for a kitchen that’s designed for hosting. The project team selected PITT Cooking’s ENEP system, an integrated cooktop that pairs with any countertop.

The system is available in both gas and induction options and is fully customizable, from the finish on the burner to the placement of the knobs. It also offers substantial spacing between burners, giving homeowners more flexibility when using multiple pots and pans.

Lighting That Lets the Party Linger into the Evening Hours

Lighting is critical for a multifunctional space. With the need for both task and ambient lighting, the quincho features 4-inch recessed lights from Nora Lighting’s Lolite Collection.

Producing up to 2500 lumens in color temperatures ranging from 2700K to 5000K, the series provides customizable illumination. It also offers dimmable options through the company’s proprietary Comfort Dim technology.
